Do you go to church? Have you heard God's Word? If so, and you listen to it and follow his teaching, then he considers you to be wise. You are like a person building a house on a solid foundation that the rains and winds cannot bring down.
If you hear God's teaching and do not obey, then you are the opposite. You are foolish and building your house on sand. The rains and floods will cause your house to collapse.
How many of us go through the motions of going to church, hear the Word, and then Monday through Saturday live our lives our own way? I have done that way too many times and that sounds a lot like a foundation of sand. We should not only hear it, we should study it, meditate on it, apply it, and desire more of it daily. He tells us to meditate on it day and night. That is building on a firm foundation.
Those of us who have heard God's Word have two basic choices: obey or disobey. I don't know about you, but I prefer that my house is built on a firm foundation!
Matthew 7:24-27 (NLT) - "Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash."
