Captivated

The Bible tells us to take every thought captive so that we keep ourselves pure and in obedience to Christ. Our thought life, the things we spend an inordinate time thinking about, can occupy our minds to the point that they hold us captive.

Things can hold us captive, too. What do you like to do when you aren’t working or sleeping? Do you watch TV, play video games, or surf the internet? These are not bad things unless you are captivated by them. How do you know if you are captivated by them? Those things that occupy all your free time are holding you captive if you spend all or most of your free time doing them, you don’t like to miss a day without them, you absolutely do not want to give them up, or you would often choose them over doing another activity with friends.

If your social life, or more importantly your fellowship with God, is almost nonexistent, then you have become addicted to those things. I would dare to say that the enemy has a grip on you through that thing, whatever it is, to keep you from others and to separate you. It has gone from being an enjoyable tool of relaxation and recreation to a tool of the enemy to destroy you and hold you captive in your own home.

So, put down those things, clear your mind, and get out and enjoy life with those that God has placed in your life. Fellowship with family, friends, and the body of Christ. Be engaged in reality and not what Hollywood, game developers, or internet providers want to steer you towards. Take your thoughts captive and purify your heart and mind. Be alive in Christ!

2 Corinthians 10:5 (TPT) - “We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.”
